South African prosecutors have opposed Oscar Pistorious’ final appeal, describing it as having no reasonable prospect of success.
The Paralympic champion has been on bail awaiting a new sentence since December when the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) found him guilty of murder for shooting dead his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on February 14, 2013.
The SCA had earlier granted him a conditional release in October 20, 2015, after a year in prison on a five-year sentence for homicide, but overturned his earlier conviction on the lesser charge of culpable homicide.
Pistorious, who killed Steenkamp, a model and law graduate, in the early hours of Valentine’s Day three years ago, maintains that he mistook her for an intruder when he shot her four times through the door of his bedroom toilet.
The Constitutional Court will now decide whether to hear the case, which could see the 29-year-old condemned to at least 15 years in jail.
His next case will be heard on April 18, 2016.
